Still alive...

It's over a year since I last posted anything on this blog, so I thought I'd just pop my head through the door and say "hello".

Having started work at "One Iota" in September 2011, I found myself working on multiple projects concurrently and consequently had little spare time for niceties such as blogging and social networks. I have since deleted my facebook account altogether and have only just reappeared on twitter over the past few months. It is now time to put more effort into Nokia's Support Discussion forums in order to reaffirm my position as all-time number 2 participant over there.

Round Table has, of course, taken a lot of time. At one point recently I was wondering if I'd bitten off more than I could chew by taking on 3 roles in my own Table (Leyland 665) and a further 3 on the Area Executive, but I'm determined to see this through as this will be my one and only year in the organisation because of my age (I was already 44 years old when inducted in March 2012).

So, watch this space. I'm planning on using it more than I have done in the past!

Back in work again

It had to happen at some point in time...

On Monday 26/09/2011 I started work as a PHP developer with Rossendale-based firm One Iota.

We can all breathe a sigh of relief!

Out of a job...

It had to happen sooner or later, the writing was on the wall in February.

As of September 12th 2011 I am swelling the numbers of unemployed in this country having been made redundant by iknow-UK. I did survive the first round of redundancies announced in February, but not the August batch. The company's revenue took a massive nose-dive in the wake of Google Panda, which caused some 60% less traffic to be directed to us from the search engine. This meant less visitors, less conversions into bookings and consequently less revenue. The company could not afford to pay all of its staff, so more had to go.

Since August I have been looking for a new job. I have had several interviews already, via recruiters or found on my own, not all of which have even resulted in any feedback (you just go for the interview and then never hear from the recruiter or employer again!), but more opportunities are showing up every week.

For those of you who are interested and if you have a job going in the I.T. world, you can find my CV here: CV Sept. 2011.
